Critter Nation 2 Duel Level Chinchilla Cage
This cage in our opinion is ‘hands down’ the best cage you can house your chinchilla in.
Even though the name of this cage is ’duel level’ it’s actually over 4 different levels, which are great for your chinchilla.
This along with the fact that the dimensions are 36″L x 24″W x 63″H means that adding a second chinchilla is simple and there’s no need to purchase another cage.
When your chin spends so much of their day inside of their cage it’s important to ensure that they have ample space to jump, climb and get around freely.
This is one the reason why we love this cage so much and we are sure your chinchillas will too.
From an owners point of view, there are 4 access points so you never have to feel like you are going to struggle to access any area of the cage.
Mid West (Critter Nation) are trusted cage manufactures and always make it easy to construct the cage. There’s no need for any tools and you should really be able to have the whole thing set up and ready to go in around 30-45 minutes.
Another of the main reasons why we rate this cage so highly is because it’s construction is just so solid.
If you already own a chinchilla or maybe 2, then you will know that chins love to bounce off the cage and jump and climb a lot!
If you opt for a cheap poorly constructed cage then you could end up spending 2 or 3 times your original investment replacing broken parts or even the full cage.
It’s far better to buy a cage from a well known and trusted supplier that offers high-quality construction and is built to last!
One of my personal favourites about this Critter Nation model is that it comes with under cage storage so you have a place for hay, pellets, cleaning equipment and anything else you need to store.
This helps to keep everything at hand and is something that’s often overlooked as a must-have feature.
The cage also comes with wheels, at first this may seem like a little side feature but honestly, this is one of the things we look for first in a cage.
Having a cage on wheels allows you to easily move your chin’s cage to another room, area in a room as well as moving the cage easily for cleaning.
Without wheels, all these tasks are not just harder but nearly impossible.
Prevue Hendryx Feisty Ferret Chinchilla Cage
This is our budget cage option and plays a close second to the Critter Nation cage we have just talked about.
We would like to make it clear that if you have the budget, then we recommend you opt for the Critter nation cage, however, if your budget won’t stretch that far then this cage by Prevue Hendryx is the closest thing you will get to the Critter Nation.
The first thing you will notice is that this cage is visually very similar to the Critter Nation we recommended previously, and that’s because that design is what we think is most suitable both for your chinchilla and for you as an owner.
This cage isn’t quite as big but it’s still a really good size and comes in at 31″ L x 20″ W x 54″ H.
This cage comes with 4 levels, which we feel is important to provide your chinchilla with as many different platforms and areas to jump and climb as possible as this will keep them mentally stimulated whilst in their cage.
You also get under cage storage for all your hay, pellets and other equipment as well as those all-important wheels to move the cage around freely when needed.
As you can see, we have really done our best to find a cage to match the Critter Nation as best as possible!
Apart from the fact that this cage is slightly small than the Critter Nation cage, the other noticeable slight difference is the quality.
Yes, that’s right, this cage does have a slight difference in quality when compared to the Critter Nation.
This doesn’t mean that this cage is poor quality, not at all, remember this is the 2nd best cage we can find, however, the Critter nation is just supreme quality and that’s why it’s more expensive and this is the budget option.
When you are deciding which cage you are going to opt for, you will need to decide if you are prepared to purchase a cage that is slightly cheaper in price and less sturdy construction or the one that’s higher in price and higher quality?
Overall, both cages are good options and you and your chinchilla love your purchase no matter which one you choose!
